Fiber Washers?

Hello everyone, I'm gearing up to reassemble my yellow BZ, and does anyone know where I can find fiber washers. I had some washers in there that just disintegrated, I assumed they were asbestos, and it was suggested I replace them with fiber. Can I just go to the hardware store?

I'm still waiting on my welder for that stainless steel griddle - and I will keep you all posted as to how it works, plus post photos of my nifty 50's style kitchen.

They were originaly fiber. I found them at a retailer that sold nothing but bolts, screws and washers...Only color he had was kinda pink.
